In 2019, a year before the official closure of Roc Nation’s boxing division, the Lane brothers negotiated Zhang’s release with Matchroom Boxing USA, which Duva, again, had cut a deal with. In 2024, Zhang’s co-manager recalled his promoter tried to stop him leaving by intimidation, dragging him into legal battles and refusing to line him up in fights. Brothers Tommy and Terry Lane, sons of boxing referee Mills Lane, joined Zhang as advisers and helped guide him out of trouble. It was not clear whether this incident was referring to Zhang’s termination of contract in November 2014 or in 2019.
He has not fought professionally for almost 20 years, since he retired on his stool after five rounds against Kevin McBride. Tyson did return to the ring in 2020 for an exhibition against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr which was scored a draw after eight rounds and which followed a similar rule set to Tyson’s clash with Paul.
“Yeah, man, we almost got him, we almost got him,” they laughed. I had no idea what they were talking about and then they told me. They were boxing Mr. Stewart, one of the counselors. Bobby Stewart was a tough Irish guy, around 170 pounds, who had been a professional boxer. I was in my room one night when there was a loud, intimidating knock on the door. I opened the door and it was Mr. Stewart.

As well as that Victor Whitmill tribal tattoo on his face and the visage of his ex-wife, Monica Turner – whom he divorced after she admitted cheating on him – Tyson also has a portrait of Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara, whom he described during an interview as an “incredible” person who “had a lot” but who “sacrificed everything for the benefit of other people,” on his abdomen.
The timing and choice of the tattoo sparked widespread speculation. His coach, Jeff Fenech, suggested to Fox Sports, the tattoo was more than aesthetics, hinting at Tyson’s reluctance to fight: “I thought we are fighting in a week, and when you get a tattoo, you can’t fight because they snap up and it wouldn’t be healthy to do that. We sat down and spoke, and he didn’t really want to fight and he wasn’t prepared to, and that was one of the reasons he got the tattoo.” The fight was even cancelled once, as his coaching team thought that his lack of conditioning could lead to him losing the fight. Yet, Tyson defied doubts, ended up fighting Clifford, decisively ending the bout with Etienne box in yahoo.com a mere 49 seconds, showcasing his undiminished prowess.

“Mike will move from this side to this side without you knowing at exactly which moment,” Ngannou later added. “Everything . Knowing Mike, I just believe that Mike will beat him. It’s not betting against him, it’s just what it is. If he would have been in another circumstance, I’d be like, ‘Okay, let’s go, Jake.’ But this I’m like, ‘Bro, let’s be real.’”
By the age of 12, Tyson was already a seasoned criminal, robbing whatever, whenever and whomever he could. He ended up in the Tryon School for Boys, a juvenile reform school in rural Johnstown, New York, where he soon learned his fists of fury could be put to better use. A boxing coach at Tryon steered Tyson to D’Amato, an aging trainer who had taken Floyd Patterson and Jose Torres to world titles. D’Amato would soon emerge as a literal father figure to Tyson, becoming the 16-year-old’s legal guardian and officially adopting him after Tyson’s mother died of cancer in 1982. D’Amato died three years later, at 77, when the 18-year-old heavyweight sported an 11-0 record.
He is also unsurprisingly bullish about his chances against the fighter three decades his senior. “My sights are set on becoming a world champion,” a separate post from Paul says in part,” and now I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion of the world, the baddest man on the planet and the most dangerous boxer of all time.
The irony is that by eschewing some of the sordid details and having Tyson narrate his life story from his point of view as he sees fit—including his dubious assertion that Givens faked a miscarriage—”Mike” come across as telling the same generally accurate story as the one the living, breathing Tyson has been sharing for years. Under different circumstances, it’s easy to imagine him signing off on the colorfully rogue Rhodes portrayal, at least for the first four episodes The fifth episode, “Desiree,” tells a very different story than the one Tyson wants you to hear.
